ACCURATE VALVE ADJUSTMENT:
Racers have been posting their engine builds on fb and I would like to send out a little help on valve adjustment. The stock way is for a stock camshaft. This will take some extra time, but it's worth it.
Get yourself a piece of chalk or grease pencil.
Now rotate the engine till the exhaust valve just starts to open, now adjust the intake valve. Mark that adjuster so you know it's done. Now keep rotating until you see the intake valve just closes and adjust the exhaust. Mark that one done. Keep looking down the line at other rockers to see if other intake or exhaust rockers are coming up for the right position for adjustment.
So it's Exhaust opening- Intake closing.
It may take 3 turns of the engine. But no more weird loose valve adjustments. For you VW builders. .000 lash with steel pushrods.
Your case grows .030 to .040 when hot.
Spin a cam in your hand using two fingers as lifters and you will see how this works.
Have patience and you will be happy with your results.
